Upcoming Films - Post-Oscar season...

Now that the desperate Academy Awards season is over, what interesting films are there being distributed in the UK?

Here are some that have caught our eyes...

Room 237 (Rodney Ascher) 2013

No director is more enigmatic that Stanley Kubrick so a film that discusses theories about his film catalogue will definitely be interesting. The last film to discuss his work with passion was Stanley Kubrick's Boxes - a 2008 TV movie that looked at his meticulous research methods.

Free Angela and all Political Prisoners (Shola Lynch) 2013

Another documentary, this time about the political activist Angela Davis.  She was an influential radical female professor in the 1960s.  After the nightmare US election possibilities in 2012 and the discomforts and setbacks nearly imposed upon women through a Republican victory - this documentary and a reminder of Davis' actions will be fascinating.

To The Wonder (Terence Malick) 2013

After the insightful and strange Tree of Life comes another artistic film from Malick looking at love and loss.  He never fails to impress visually and his stories are always pleasantly unconventional.

Olympus Has Fallen (Antoine Fuqua) 2013

From the director of Training Day comes a film where the President is taken hostage inside the White House - seems like a prescient reflection of current politics in the US...

The title to this film is so grandiose it is impossible to resist.
